DanieL & Grace (Disneyland)

A Quiet Yes in the Brisa Courtyard.

Daniel and I have known each other since college, so when he told me he was going to propose, I think I was almost as nervous as he was. This was my first time meeting Grace, and I was meeting her on the most important morning of their relationship so far.

He picked the Brisa Courtyard at Disney's Grand Californian. Tucked-away, ferns everywhere, that warm lantern hanging over the center of the bricks. He walked her in, found their spot, and started into a speech he'd clearly been holding onto for a while. The courtyard was empty. Just the two of them, the soft hum of the hotel somewhere beyond the walls, and me trying to disappear behind a long lens.

Grace's hands went to her face before he finished talking. Daniel was laughing and crying at the same time when he opened the box. After the yes, after the ring, they just stood there in the middle of that brick circle holding each other for a long time. It was one of those rare proposal moments that actually got to breathe.

We wandered the gardens for a while afterward, the light going gold through the pines, the two of them still a little stunned and laughing about it. You could already see the shape of what they're going to be like as a married couple in the way she held his arm.

I'm so honored I get to keep telling their story. We're back together in September for the wedding, and I genuinely cannot wait.

Planning a proposal of your own? I'd love to help you think through the moment and capture it the way it actually happens. Let's talk.
