David & Sabrina (Malibu Creek State Park Engagement)

Chasing Light In California.

David and Sabrina came into our consultation with a feeling in mind. Not necessarily a shot list, but a vision that evoked more than some pixels on a screen. Storybook. Cinematic. Something that looked like it belonged in a film they'd watched too many times and loved anyway.

I knew from my travels that Malibu Creek State Park at golden hour is exactly the right place for that. The light comes through the oak trees at an angle that feels almost deliberate. With the creek, rock formations, the open chaparral, you chase the light here because it shifts constantly as the sun drops. And, if you stay long enough into blue hour, the whole mood changes bringing a certain magic to the air.

We stayed long enough.

David and Sabrina were willing to get fun with it; to try things, move around, and try to forget about the camera. That's when the best frames happen. Not when everyone is standing still and smiling at the lens, but when something real sneaks through.
